Part Time (Employee will be required to work other than normal business hours, to include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.)

 

DUTIES

Summary: The Minister of Music directs the organization and implementation of a comprehensive church music program including choir, vocal, and instrumental ensembles. The Minister of Music serves as a leader in the worship services, giving direction to hymns, congregational singing, choirs, praise team, and other phases of worship where needed.  Most importantly, the Minister of Music is responsible for maintaining and creating a flow within worship services that will craft the appropriate spiritual atmosphere at the correct moments within the liturgy.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide musical accompaniment (organ, piano, or keyboard) for all performing units that comprise the church choral music program as well as all worship services and Tabitha programs/events

  • Provide inspiring and motivational music during all worship services and Tabitha programs/events

  • Lead the congregation utilizing a variety of styles of music to include coaching for new songs unfamiliar to the congregation

  • Spread vitality and engage the congregation through the musical worship experience

  • Help bridge generational/cultural differences by selecting a balance of musical styles for every service which will, as a whole, have a multigenerational appeal

  • Assist in developing opportunities for children/youth involvement in the worship service

  • Plan, organize, and lead the music ministry

  • Rehearse with the choir weekly

  • Supervise all music personnel and assist in their professional and spiritual growth and development

  • Lead and direct the various components of the music programs including choir(s), vocals, instruments, and other expressions of musical experience

  • Teach, coach, and mentor all music ministry team members to become long learners with respect to their musical talents as well as their spiritual development 

  • Rehearse or otherwise assure preparedness of all music ministry elements

  • Mentor and coach interested members to become worship leaders or other forms of music ministry specialists, according to their calling

  • Promote fellowship within and help recruit new volunteers into the music ministry

  • Practice discipleship through an inspiring and engaging music ministry 

  • Arrange for and prepare music components for special worship programs for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Black History Month, etc. 

  • As needed, assist with, arrange for, and prepare music components for weddings and funerals of members and non-members

  • Participate in monthly planning and leadership meetings with the Pastor and other leaders of the church 

  • Maintain effective communications with the Pastor, Music Ministry Leadership Committee, leaders of the church, and music ministry team members 

  • Acquire the music, equipment, and supplies required to perform designated duties in accordance with Tabitha’s financial policies 

  • Manage the music ministry budget and submit reports, estimates, and requests by specified deadlines

  • Strictly adhere to Tabitha’s policies and procedures

  • Other duties as required or assigned 

 

Travel Required                                              

Occasional travel – You will be expected to travel for this position. All travel will be for work-related duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A sincere conviction that God has planted her/him at the Tabitha Church, and a strong commitment to actively support the vision and direction of our church and this specific ministry 

  • An evident calling, quality training, and sincere passion to minister to the church through Spirit-led worship 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • At least one year leading a congregation in public musical worship, with a commitment to professional development (i.e., training and continued education)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of a wide variety of musical styles and the ability to teach these varying styles to the choir

    • These styles must include hymns, traditional, and contemporary worship music

  • Advanced musical proficiency in piano, keyboard, and organ across a variety of styles with a superior ability to instruct in vocal techniques, and teach parts effectively to choir members

  • Exceptionally skilled communicator, effective at listening, and discerning team and individual needs

  • Superior leader who is able to establish effective working relationships

  • Excellent ability to work efficiently and effectively, with a spirit of genuine love and concern with staff and volunteers

  • Highly effective planner with excellent time management and organizational skills; detail-oriented, flexible, and decisive with the ability to organize and coordinate work, set priorities, delegate, build consensus, and meet deadlines

  • Submit to leadership and established policies and the doctrine of the church
